Operates and maintains treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described below are indicative of what the Wastewater Operator might be asked to perform. Other duties may be assigned. This job description is to incorporate any municipal ordinances created for the position of Wastewater Operator.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors valves, equipment, meters and
- Observes variations in operating conditions and interpret computer, meter and gauge readings and test results to determine processing requirements.
- Operates equipment and valves either manually or by remote control: starts and stops pumps and engines to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. Maintains logs and records meter and gauge readings.
- Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties.
- Operates and maintains pumping equipment, power generating equipment, and sewage collection system.
- Occasionally must provide laboratory technician duties as
- Data entry into computer spread sheets and system management software, and report generation.
- Perform sewer cleaning and televising with various equipment and trucks.
- Clean lift station and WWTP wet
- Preventative and corrective maintenance of various waste water
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required at the time of hire or for continuation of employment.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma
- Experience or education in an environmental or IT field is desirable
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Requirements:
- Possesses a valid State of Wisconsin Grade 2 Operator Certification with the following WDNR subclasses is highly desirable A (Primary Treatment); C (Activated Sludge); E (Disinfection); F (Anaerobic Digestion); I (Phosphorous Removal); and J (Laboratory).
- Maintains a Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements established by the
- Must be able to respond to emergencies at the plant within thirty minutes of receiving
- Must be willing to work weekend shift as
- Satisfactorily complete "Confined Space "
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and with a
- Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data into computer software
- Basic understanding of function and capabilities of SCADA
Language Skills:
- Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions; accurately record
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform ordinary arithmetical, algebraic, and geometric procedures in standard practical applications.
Reasoning Skills:
- Ability to work with the public in a professional
