Waupun Utilities is seeking a high-level Certified Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator to join our team as the Operator - Lead. This position plays a key role in the daily operation and maintenance of both the wastewater and water treatment facilities serving our community. The Operator - Lead performs technical, supervisory, and hands-on work to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of Waupun Utilities’ state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Facility featuring an Advanced Biological Nutrient Recovery (ABNR) upgrade, and its Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility. This position involves monitoring system performance, leading operational staff, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements. This role also offers opportunities for continued professional growth and future advancement into higher level leadership roles within Waupun Utilities.
Key Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater and water treatment processes and equipment.

Collect and analyze samples; perform laboratory and field tests.

Oversee process control and compliance reporting.

Troubleshoot and optimize facility performance.

Maintain, repair, and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment, including:
centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, chemical feed and displacement pumps, blowers, sewage lift stations, belt filter presses, water processing equipment, and various air/electrically operated valves. -
Utilize SCADA systems for process monitoring and data analysis.

Provide guidance, training, and supervision to operational staff.

Ensure adherence to safety procedures and environmental regulations.
Qualifications

Valid Wisconsin Wastewater Treatment Advanced Operator’s License (required).

High school diploma or GED; associate or technical degree preferred.

Minimum four (4) years of hands-on experience in a wastewater treatment facility, including at least two (2) years at a Class III or higher plant.

Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, process control, and mechanical systems.

Demonstrated ability to maintain and repair treatment equipment (pumps, blowers, valves, etc.).

Supervisory experience preferred.

Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License/CDL.
