Throughout my apprenticeship at the City of Fond du Lac Water Treatment Resource Recovery Facility (WTRRF), I have gained invaluable skills and connections that will help launch my career. Over the course of my apprenticeship, I have developed a strong foundation in transferable skills such as laboratory analysis, data analysis, and a comprehensive understanding of the plant’s treatment processes. I quickly realized that wastewater treatment is far more complex than I had initially expected. From managing the collection system to high-strength waste, each stage of the process plays a crucial role in the facility’s overall operation.
I was also fortunate to attend a conference hosted by the Central States Water Environment Association (CSWEA), where I gained insight into the diverse treatment strategies used by wastewater facilities across the state. Hearing about the unique challenges different plants face and the innovative solutions they have developed was particularly enlightening. This apprenticeship has not only provided me with technical expertise but has also strengthened my problem-solving skills, work ethic, and adaptability.
The experience I have gained at the City of Fond du Lac WTRRF will serve as a strong foundation for my future career, equipping me with the skills necessary to tackle any challenge that comes my way.
