The City is seeking to employ an energetic leader with public works experience for the position of Wastewater Operator. This position is responsible for all operations of waste treatment, laboratory testing, lift stations, interceptors, and alarm systems. Assists mechanic in repair of pumps, valves, motors, etc. Maintains building and grounds. Records data and prepares reports.

Responsibilities include, but are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive, the following:


• Operates sewage treatment plant equipment, including pumps, compressors, motors, generators, PLC’s, screeners, grit removal equipment, digester equipment, rotary drum, and fan press.
• Operates equipment such as dump trucks, forklifts, loaders, lawn mowers, hand and power tools.
• Monitors and maintains treatment plant equipment, to include pumps, compressors, motors, generators, blowers, conveyors, piping, plumbing, and other components of the system.
• Monitors equipment at plant and lift stations, including daily and weekly lift station maintenance.
• Performs laboratory tests on raw and treated wastewater. Records data and prepares charts.
• Reads meters, gauges, and flow charts as necessary and makes arithmetical calculations.
• Maintains building and grounds, including, but not limited to, mowing grass, raking lawns, clearing snow, painting equipment and buildings, vacuuming, and mopping.
• Works in an “on-call” rotation with operators to respond to plant emergencies after hours.
• Works every third weekend, followed by extended days off.

High school graduation or equivalent is required. Associate Degree in Water/Wastewater Management and two years of experience as a wastewater treatment plant operator is preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License. Possession of, or ability to obtain Wisconsin Certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator within five years of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid/CPR Certification.

The starting pay range is $27.46 to $32.30 per hour.
