The following is a job description for the position of the Utilities Superintendent. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and its collection system and the operation and maintenance of the Village Water Utility including wells, pumps, storage and distribution system reporting to the Village Board. It is not intended to be a complete listing of all miscellaneous, incidental or substantially similar duties which may be assigned during normal or emergency operations.

 Establish staff requirements. Prepare job descriptions and develop work schedules.
 Fill in for Utilities and Public Works Operator’s when absent.
 Perform or supervise all tests required for both the Wastewater System and the Water Utility.
 Confirm sludge totals with necessary customers.
 Complete and submit all reports required by all government agencies. Maintain records of all
reports.
 Develop preventative maintenance procedures and records for all equipment in the
Wastewater and Water Works Departments. Inspect plants to ensure procedures are followed
and document all inspections.
 Keep current in improved methods and equipment for cost effective treatment and make
recommendations to the Village board for their implementation.
 Provide training materials and schedule seminars for all personnel.
 Maintain an inventory of all plant equipment supplies, tools, and spare parts. Also maintain
adequate supplies in stock.
 Maintain good public relations with industry, citizens, visitors and the press. Provide tours of
the treatment plant and explain operations.
 Adjust operations as flows and loading change to maintain efficiency and meet the WPDES
permit requirements for effluent.
 Establish sludge disposal sites and direct disposal of sludge within the rules and regulations
established in the WPDES permits. Also submit and retain all records required.
 Responsible for efficient operation of the sewers and pumping stations. Maintain records
showing sewers cleaned each year, trouble spots, required repairs and complaints. A file card
is to be maintained for each section of the sewer between manholes.
 Respond immediately to emergency conditions occurring in any of the facilities. Test
emergency signals monthly and maintain records of tests.
 Knowledge of SCADA software system and other computer/website reporting
 Responsible for water meter readings.
 Attend any and all required meetings, i.e., Village Board, Plan Commission, Staff, Developers,
etc.
 Be on-call on a rotating basis.
 Assist in preparing the annual budget and PSC report.
 Snow removal.
High School diploma and College Degree in Biology/Chemistry desired. Commercial Driver’s
License, Wisconsin DNR Waste Water License, and Water Operator License as required (or in the
process of obtaining). Must be knowledgeable in Administration, Biology, Chemistry and have
supervisory skills. Must be able to climb a ladder and lift at least 50 pounds.
