WPCC Operations Supervisor - Brookfield


SUMMARY:    The WPCC Operations Supervisor is principally responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the wastewater treatment facility, collection system and associated equipment.  This position provides technical support, analysis of laboratory and process data, and ensures overall operational compliance.   


¨      Provides technical support to plant staff and engineers. 

¨      Manages and implements action for solving emergency situations. 

¨      Recommends methods and procedures to prevent or eliminate future emergency situations.

¨      Performs facility inspections.  

¨      Conducts studies to identify improvements and in plant operations to improve efficiency. 

¨      Recommends design of new processes and equipment. 

¨      Oversees and schedules routine cleaning of the collection system.

¨      Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations with other City department staff and the community in general. 

¨      Responds or refers complaints to the appropriate person. 

¨      Directs the selection, training, supervision, evaluation, and discipline of assigned wastewater treatment staff. 

¨      Establishes priorities, works with deadlines, responds to emergencies, and works with various skill levels and employee physical restrictions. 

¨      Conducts operation, maintenance and safety training for employees.

¨      Answers questions regarding problems with the sanitary sewer system.

¨      Analyzes laboratory and process data and recommends appropriate adjustments or modifications to the plant or treatment process.

¨      Compiles, calculates, and ensures accuracy of collected data for processing government and plant reports.  

¨      Schedules facility and equipment repairs and corrective action.

1.               Associate's Degree in science, engineering, business, or related field. 

2.               Wisconsin Wastewater Operator Advanced Certification or the ability to attain within 12 months of appointment required.

3.               At least 2 years of lead worker experience preferably at a wastewater treatment plant. 

4.               At least 5 years experience in the operation and maintenance of treatment plants, safety training, and employee relations. 

5.               Excellent written and communication skills. Ability to maintain a systematic recordkeeping system  

6.               Advanced knowledge of wastewater treatment operations, procedures and regulations. 

7.               Must possess good mechanical and electrical abilities and aptitude.

8.               Knowledge of computer software programs, including spreadsheets, word processing and data bases.

9.               Valid Wisconsin driver’s license. 

Equivalent combinations of training and experience will be considered.

THE 2019 SALARY RANGE IS:  $65,975.26 - $85,768.02 annually with excellent benefits.

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following:  training and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods.  The Department of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations.  Oral examinations may include written exercises.  Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
