The Village of Sussex (population 11,200) is hiring a full-time Water Operator.
The Village operates and maintains five wells, a booster station, four water storage facilities and about 65 miles of water main. Water utility work includes water plant maintenance, lab work, distribution system maintenance, water meter installation and more.
Water Operators are part of the Public Works Department, which is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including street maintenance, stormwater utility, wastewater utility, and special projects. All Public Works Employees are expected to assist in all the identified areas; however, the majority of time for this position will be spent working for the water utility.
Qualifications: Experience in water plant operations, lab work, as well as equipment and system maintenance are required. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Municipal waterworks operator certification in Groundwater and Distribution is preferred. The successful candidate must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License as well as a Class A CDL or be able to obtain within six months of hire.
On-Call: Once training is complete the candidate will join the nine week on call rotation. This will consist of responding to after hour emergencies and weekend duties. This candidate must also be available from December 1st to March 1st for snow plowing.
Wage: The Village offers a competitive wage range of $23.38 – $32.54, DOQ. The Village also offers a competitive benefits package including insurance (health, dental and life) and participates in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and more.
