Equipment Operator-WWTP/Sewer

The City of La Crosse is currently accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator I in the Wastewater/Sewer Department. Responsibilities for this position include manual labor, operating large equipment and driving a CDL vehicle. Incumbents regularly operate motorized excavating, construction and maintenance equipment. Equipment includes backhoes, dump truck, sewer cleaning equipment, snow removal and other assigned equipment. Incumbents work under general supervision of lead workers, supervisors and/or superintendents. Starting wage for this full-time, non-exempt position is between $19.21 and $22.01 per hour (80 hours bi-weekly) depending on qualifications, with potential to earn up to $25.20 per hour. 

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent required with 2-3 years heavy equipment operating experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. A valid commercial driver’s license class B required or ability to successfully obtain a commercial driver’s license class B within 30 days on the job in the position. Selected candidate subject to participation in DOT regulated random drug and alcohol program. CPR, First Aid and confined space entry certifications may be required.
