Founded in 1912, the Village of Sister Bay is the center of northern Door County activity.  The Village provides a vibrant, full service business community hosting retail, dining, lodging, grocery, medical care, banking and other professional services.  For residents, Sister Bay is an excellent place to raise a family, start a business, or retire.

Natural resources, outdoor activities and cultural amenities are plentiful in Door County, Wisconsin’s premiere resort peninsula that annually draws more than two million visitors. Sister Bay is 75 miles north of Green Bay.

The Village seeks a high-energy, collaborative public works professional to direct a broad range of services including water and wastewater utilities (serving as operator in charge), streets and facilities, parks and recreation.  The ideal candidate is an innovative, collaborative thinker ready to be an integral part of the Village’s management team.

The Director is responsible for leading a department of eight full-time employees, as well as managing $2.3 million in general fund and an estimated $1.8 million in utility budgets. The development of the Village’s first capital improvement program is underway. The Director reports to the Village Administrator.

The new Director can expect to:

Oversee and inaugurate improvements to the Village’s wastewater treatment plant which are in progress. The $4.9 million upgrade includes a new UV treatment system.
Have a direct hand in developing, enhancing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
In collaboration with the Village Administrator, plan, develop and program major Village infrastructure projects including streets, utilities and facilities improvements.

Qualified candidates should have:

·         An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in water and wastewater technology, engineering technology or closely related field.

An ability to obtain, or possess, a valid Wisconsin DNR Municipal Water Supply Operator Certification in Distribution grade 1 and Groundwater grade 1 within one year. Also, an ability to obtain, or possess a valid Wisconsin DNR Municipal Wastewater Operator Grade 2 certification in activated sludge, disinfection, phosphorous removal and laboratory, within one year.
·         Five or more years of progressively responsible positions in municipal public works, including supervisory experience.

·         Well developed skills in effective service delivery and creative problem solving.

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
