Operator Certification
In the mid 1950's the Conference of Wisconsin Sewerage Works Operators (predecessor to the WWOA) was the driving force behind a voluntary state certification program. The organization wanted to raise the standards of wastewater operators and felt that a mandatory program would be required in the future. Operators worked diligently in developing the state's first certification program.
As with today's operator certification, there were four levels or grades of certification that could be acquired. Class A was the highest rank, with four levels down to a Class D for smaller facilities.
Certification began by paying a $2.00 application/ examination fee, passing the respective exam level, and meeting the mandatory academic/experience standards set for each Class.
